clean water

It's the elixir of life, the most basic and vital resource that our bodies require. But in Haiti, the water is the worst in the world. Contaminated with germs that spread hepatitis, cholera and chronic diarrhea, water is Haiti's leading cause of infant mortality and illness.

Men, women and children walk miles through treacherous paths to one of the few water supplies only to salvage water that is tainted with human waste from the absence of a central sewage sanitation system.

The Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) reported that more than half of all deaths in Haiti were due to water-borne gastro-intestinal diseases. The majority of Haiti's population of more than 9 million people lack accessible, affordable and safe portable water.
